Announcement : Election Season for Board of Directors

Hall of Fame Members,

April 1 – On behalf of the TUAHOF Elections Committee (Dr. Stephanie Davis (2019), Render Copeland (2019), Dr. Rudy Deveaux (2017) and James Hill (2013) – Chair), this communication is to announce the start of the TUAHOF Election Season.

The following positions are subject to election in this election cycle:

  • five hall of fame member board positions
  • four at-large board positions
  • board officers 

All members of the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame are eligible to submit nominations for the primary, and also vote in the general elections.

Nominations for the “five hall of fame member board positions” will close on June 1, 2020. 

nomination (canvas) ballot was mailed to you on April 1.  In addition to the nomination (canvas) ballot, the mailing included a letter and the election process details. 

Please submit your nominations before noon Eastern time on June 1.

Warren Reynolds, three sports TU Hall of Fame member pass away

Warren Reynolds passed away on Sunday – January 19, 2020 in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama.

Reynolds was a 1964 graduate of Tuskegee (Institute) University. He was later inducted in the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 where he was recognized as a three sport inductee (Football, Basketball and Baseball). TUAHOF Biography

Reynolds was a 1964 graduate of Tuskegee (Institute) University. He was later inducted in the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 where he was recognized as a three sport inductee (Football, Basketball and Baseball).

Additionally, Reynolds had an outstanding coaching career on the high school and college level and was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.

Reynolds was active in his community until his passing – mentoring children as a volunteer of an after-school program at Andrew Belle Community Center in Dothan.

The 2019 TUAHOF Induction Weekend kicks off with the Enshrinement Banquet on Friday, September 20 at 6 pm in the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center and the Hall of Fame Football game between Tuskegee University and Winston Salem State on Saturday, September 21 at 12 noon. Passing of Dr. Bettye ‘Bama’ McClendon (1983)

August 8, 2019 – Dr. Bettye ‘Bama’ McClendon (TUAHOF Class 1983) passed away on August 2, 2019 in her hometown of Atlanta, GA.

Dr. McClendon played basketball at Tuskegee Institute from 1951-1955. She also was named Coach of the Year for the Atlanta Public Schools in 1983. Dr. McClendon later earned her Ph.D. from Nova University.

Dr. McClendon was inducted into the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Homegoing services will be held is Thursday, August 8th at 11 am ET.

Broderick ‘Ricky” Jones passing

May 19, 2019 – Broderick “Ricky” Jones (TUAHOF Class 2013) passed away on May 18, 2019 in his hometown of Birmingham Alabama.

Jones starred at Tuskegee under legendary Coach Haywood Scissum
as a linebacker on the Golden Tigers Football squad (1973-1976). Jones played in the National Football League for seven years (1977-1984) before returning to Tuskegee as a coach.

Jones earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Tuskegee in 1989 and was inducted into the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Earnest Will Salter (2007) pass away

May 4, 2019 – Mr. Earnest Will Salter passed away on May 1, 2019. Salter lived in Montgomery where he passed away.

Salter receive his bachelor’s degree in 1961 and his master’s degree in 1975 from Tuskegee. He was inducted into the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Jude Catholic Church – Montgomery, AL. Interment at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Cemetery in Montgomery.

Salter was also a dedicated and loyal member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. Omega Rites Services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home.

The Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame (TUAHOF) Selection Committee is pleased to announce the 2019 TUAHOF Class.

The eleven honorees will be recognized during the 2019 Induction Weekend (September 20-21).  The main activities include an Enshrinement Banquet and the Hall of Fame Football game.

Tuskegee University Alumni and Friends are invited to support the weekend events that recognize Tuskegee former students-athletes, coaches and administrators who support and represent Tuskegee University with great integrity and accomplishments.

The Enshrinement Banquet will be held Friday, September 20, 2019 @ 6 pm CST at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center on Tuskegee University campus. Banquet Ticket are $40 and may be purchased online here.

The Hall of Fame Football game will be Saturday, September 21 @ 1 pm CST in Cleve Abbott Alumni Bowl (Tuskegee vs Winston Salem). Inductees will be honored at 12 NOON. Game tickets are $20 and can be purchased online here.
