HOF member Lorenzo Ogden Jr. pass away – Class of 2006

Lorenzo Ogden Jr. transitioned on Friday, March 12, 2021. Mr Ogden was a native of Birmingham, AL and a member of the 2006 Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame Class.

Mr. Ogden was a 1972 Business Administration graduate of Tuskegee University. Lorenzo was an outstanding first baseman on the Golden Tigers Baseball team from 1969-1972.

Bruce L. Johnson passing on 12/3/20 – Class of 2019

Bruce L. Johnson, member of the 2019 Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame Class, has transitioned.

Mr. Johnson was a 1989 Electrical Engineering graduate of Tuskegee University. He was a member of the the 1982 SIAC Football Championship team.

Col. William Campfield Jr. pass away – TUAHOF Class of 2005

Colonel William Campfield Jr., member of the 2005 Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame Class, has transitioned.

Colonel Campfield was a 1952 graduate of Tuskegee Institute. He was a member of the football team that was led by Coach Cleve Abbott. He was an accompliced pilot and retired from the Air Force after 30 years on August 31, 1982.

The following five members of the Hall have been elected to serve the next four years (2021-2024) on the TUAHOF Board of Directors as Member Reps:

Mr. Leonard Lewis – Class of 2013
Mr. Otis McDaniel – Class of 2006
Mr. Jesse Webb – Class of 2006
Dr. Robert Wilson, III – Class of 2006

The 2021-2024 TUAHOF BOD Member Reps were elected by the Hall of Fame members. The elections will be finalized after the four at-large position are filled and election of board officers.

Drewery L. Watson, Jr., 2013 TUAHOF Class member pass away

Drewery L, Watson, Jr. 2013Mr. Drewery L. Watson Jr., member of the 2013 Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame Class, has transitioned.

Drewery was a 1971 graduate of Tuskegee Institute. He was a two sport athlete while attending Tuskegee Institute. He played basketball and Football. He was captain of the football team and was name All-American Linebacker before signing a contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

Passing of Cecil Leonard (1987)

August 5, 2020 – Cecil Leonard (TUAHOF Class 1987) passed away on August 5 in Statesboro, GA.

Leonard played football at Tuskegee Institute from 1964-1969. He was drafted by the New York Jets in 1969 and played five years with three professional teams as a defensive back.

Leonard later coached at Tuskegee and also was a successful high school head coach.

Cecil Leonard graduated from Tuskegee in 1969 and was inducted into the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.

Announcement : Election Season for Board of Directors

Hall of Fame Members,

April 1 – On behalf of the TUAHOF Elections Committee (Dr. Stephanie Davis (2019), Render Copeland (2019), Dr. Rudy Deveaux (2017) and James Hill (2013) – Chair), this communication is to announce the start of the TUAHOF Election Season.

The following positions are subject to election in this election cycle:

  • five hall of fame member board positions
  • four at-large board positions
  • board officers 

All members of the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame are eligible to submit nominations for the primary, and also vote in the general elections.

Nominations for the “five hall of fame member board positions” will close on June 1, 2020. 

nomination (canvas) ballot was mailed to you on April 1.  In addition to the nomination (canvas) ballot, the mailing included a letter and the election process details. 

Please submit your nominations before noon Eastern time on June 1.

Warren Reynolds, three sports TU Hall of Fame member pass away

Warren Reynolds passed away on Sunday – January 19, 2020 in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama.

Reynolds was a 1964 graduate of Tuskegee (Institute) University. He was later inducted in the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 where he was recognized as a three sport inductee (Football, Basketball and Baseball). TUAHOF Biography

Reynolds was a 1964 graduate of Tuskegee (Institute) University. He was later inducted in the Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 where he was recognized as a three sport inductee (Football, Basketball and Baseball).

Additionally, Reynolds had an outstanding coaching career on the high school and college level and was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.

Reynolds was active in his community until his passing – mentoring children as a volunteer of an after-school program at Andrew Belle Community Center in Dothan.
